Google speeds toward 2019
November is here and, as we bid farewell to October, we take a look at some of Google’s news and updates in the past month. As always, there’s been a lot of online chatter about Google’s algorithm updates and their effect on the ranking of sites. One of the major changes for Google, however, in October was the Google Speed Update. The need for speed
As most of us are aware, mobile SEO has been slowly taking over with over 50% of people using the internet on their phones only. The Google Speed Update has been created to tackle the implementation of mobile loading speed as a search ranking factor.
Google has, for some time, cited page loading speed as a major factor in its ranking as this is all about the customer experience – after all, if your page takes too long to load, your customer will simply move on to somebody else’s. The Google Speed Update was launched earlier this year and is now being rolled out to all users.
What does this mean for my business?
Google’s Speed Update means that businesses now have to focus even more on the loading speed of their website. Google has warned that businesses with the slowest websites will be punished by a decrease in ranking.
Although Google has been a little coy about sharing a particular metric regarding the acceptable page loading speed, we do know that it uses metrics from the Chrome User Experience Report. Checking out this report will give you an idea of what you should be doing to make sure that your business doesn’t fall foul of the new Google Speed Update.
